Leaves are Changing, Games are Falling

At Mead Library, we’re constantly adding to the videogame collection. A few games are coming out this fall that I’m looking forward to. There are links for both PS4 and Xbox One versions next to the game titles, except Nintendo Switch games or exclusives.

The Outer Worlds (PS4/Xbox)

ESRB Rating: Mature

I’m a huge fan of the Fallout series. My favorite is Fallout: New Vegas so I was excited when I heard that Obsidian is developing another RPG in that vein. The retro-futuristic art style and dark sense of humor have me hopeful that this will be the spiritual successor to New Vegas that I’ve been waiting for.

Pokemon Shield/Sword

ESRB Rating: Everyone

I’m aware this one has some bad blood attached to it, what with the National Pokedex issue. I for one welcome the arrival, finally, of a Pokemon game on consoles. I also like gentleman Weezing too much.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (PS4/Xbox One)

ESRB Rating: Rating Pending

I’m not going to mince words on this one. I haven’t been interested in any of EA’s other jumps into the Star Wars universe. They’ve been all PvP shooters or have microscopic campaigns. Fallen Order is the first one that I’m hopeful for, excluding the now-canceled game that was being developed by the studio responsible for Dead Space. I’m not expecting it to be as crazy as The Force Unleased, but it at least is single-player.

Doom Eternal (PS4/Xbox One)

ESRB Rating: Rating Pending

Doom is one of my favorite series, besides Fallout. Everything from the soundtrack to world design is amazing to me. Doom (2016) ended on a cliffhanger, so I’ve been chomping at the bit to find out what happened to the Doom Slayer. My only complaint is the lack of the SnapMap mechanic in this sequel, but at least they’re prioritizing the campaign.

Death Stranding

ESRB Rating: Mature

Going to admit something here. I liked the ending of Neon Genesis Evangelion. What does that have to do with Death Stranding? I like my entertainment to be weird, or odds are good that I’m going to get bored. So far what the trailers for Death Stranding have shown me are rather bonkers. I’m hoping that the story is utterly insane because I still have no clue what the gameplay is going to be.
