Calling fans of The Babysitters Club!

Hello readers! This blog post is a bit outside of things that I usually blog about. It was brought to my attention that we could use a post for read-a-likes to the SUPER popular series: The Babysitters Club! As I used to be a Middle School Assistant Librarian I am very familiar with the status of this series flying off the shelves in the children’s section. This post is for those who are super excited to read another Babysitters Club book only to find the section laid bare by other ravenous fans. Please do not despair! You are in luck! If you find yourself in those unfortunate circumstances we have books very similar and no less fun!

The Sunny Series by Jennifer L Holm and Matthew Holm

Sunny is a girl who is always looking on the bright side. Each book in The Sunny Series follows Sunny on a new adventure! In the first book, Sunny Side Up, Sunny is sent to Florida for the summer to stay with her grandfather. Though she was excited for a summer in the tropics, Sunny finds that reality does not match her expectations. Always one to turn around a bad situation, Sunny makes friends with the only other kid around and solves a family mystery in the process!

In Swing It Sunny, Sunny enters Middle School. She starts to feel very confused about everything in her life. Middle School is rough and soooo complicated. In addition, Sunny’s brother is back from boarding school. Only, he has changed. He is not the same fun brother that Sunny grew up with. Sunny is not going to let life slow her down. Through it all she will prove that positivity can fix all the rainy clouds.

Join Sunny in Sunny Roll the Dice as she proves that being “cool” is just too darn exhausting and seriously BORING. Its better to be true to yourself and do what you love than trying to mold yourself into someone you think you should be. Sunny doesn’t understand why everyone in Middle School tries to be “cool”. She is happy just hanging out with her friends and playing Dungeons and Dragons in her basement. Sunny shows us through humor and heart that its more fun to have fun and do what you love than try to conform to what others see as “cool”. (Because “cool” is really not. Seriously kids, listen to Sunny. We were all there at one time. Be you. Do what makes you happy. Don’t force yourself to be something you are not just to fit in. Be true to yourself because YOU are an incredible human being and perfectly unique. Don’t change that.)

In the newest installment of The Sunny Series (Sunny Makes a Splash) Sunny gets her very first job! Its at the city pool which means FREE SWIMMING!!! Everything is great! Sunny is happy and having a blast with this stroke of independence. However, Sunny’s mom doesn’t think that Sunny is ready for so much freedom. Will Sunny and her mom be able to come to terms or will mom sink Sunny’s summer?
